2019 Jeep Renegade vs 2019 Chevrolet Trax near Charlottesville, VA

Sub-compact SUVs offer a slightly larger vehicle compared to a sedan or hatchback while offering great fuel economy and storage capability. With this type of vehicle, the 2019 Jeep Renegade and 2019 Chevrolet Trax are two of our top picks bringing top tier features and solid performance while on the drive. In order to decide which is our top pick in this matchup, we will take a closer look at the features and powertrain options that are available with each SUV! Continue reading on to find out more about what we think 2019 Jeep Renegade and the 2019 Chevrolet Trax.

2019 Jeep Renegade Power & Handling

The Renegade brings a choice between two capable engines that give you the on- and off-roading prowess you can expect from a Jeep. Coming standard with the Sport and Latitude trim you will find a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine that pushes out 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. With this core engine, you will have the choice between a front-wheel drive and Jeep’s renown 4x4 all-wheel drive toting a max-tow capacity of 2,000 lbs. Upgrading to the Limited or Trailhawk trim, you will find a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine that produces similar power as well as a bolstered 200 lb-ft of torque and enhanced fuel economy. Each engine with the Renegade comes equipped with a smooth nine-speed automatic transmission.

2019 Chevrolet Trax Power & Handling

Within the 2019 Trax, you will find a single engine powering each of the trim models. Under the hood lies a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that can produce 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. This is a decent output for a 4-cylinder engine in its class, but the power and performance fall very short in comparison to the Inline-4 engines offered with the Jeep Renegade. The Trax comes with a six-speed automatic transmission and an option between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive but does not bring as many advanced features enhancing the performance of this drivetrain that we see with Jeep’s legendary off-road capable 4x4 system.

2019 Jeep Renegade Features & Design

The 2019 Renegade offers a decent line-up of features throughout each trim level; starting with the base Sport trim we see 16-inch wheels, powered locks and windows, a rearview camera, adjustable tilt and telescoping steering wheel, an infotainment system on a 5-inch touchscreen, and flexible storage options with floor panels and 60/40-split-folding rear seats. The Latitude trim comes equipped with a large number of extra features building in roof rails, tinted privacy glass, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, fog lights, automatic headlights, extra USB ports and much more. The Limited trim offers more luxury and convenience while the Trailhawk trim equips the Renegade with Jeep’s legendary off-road capability enhancements such as all-terrain tires, low-range gear settings, hill descent control, a tuned and raised suspension, tow hooks, underbody protective skid plates, and Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system allowing you to tune performance directly to what terrain you are adventuring through.

2019 Chevrolet Trax Features & Design

With the Trax, Chevrolet offers three different trim levels adding some customization, but not as many options as we see with the Jeep Renegade. The starting LS Trax trim comes with many of the features we saw in the Renegade including 16-inch steel wheels, 60/40-split-folding rear seating, adjustable steering wheel, standard air conditioning, an infotainment system, and a rearview camera. As the Trax increases in trim levels, we see some nice features being added to further enhance the comfort and convenience of the driving experience. The 2019 Trax doesn’t quite bring in as many technologically advanced features across the board as we see with the Renegade missing out on features such as one-touch powered windows, automatic wipers, automatic high beams, corner-lights, heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, and many others.

Conclusions

The 2019 Jeep Renegade and 2019 Chevrolet Trax are two of our top picks on the market for the compact-crossover SUV bringing in a solid feature list, powertrains and fuel economy. The Trax has a solid fuel economy and engine performance, but won’t beat the Renegade on the road or match its legendary Jeep off-road capabilities. The feature list of the 2019 Renegade far exceeds that of its competitor here as well, with better technology integration as well as modern features brought in to the kit and at lower trim levels. If we were to pick a winner between these two excellent SUVs, it would have to definitely be the 2019 Jeep Renegade for its overall build and feature list.
