With an ever-expanding SUV market, it can be hard to even narrow down the ones you're interested in, nevermind narrowing the field down to the one you want to buy. We want your car buying experience to be as stress-free as possible which is why we've compared two of the top SUVs out on the market today. On the left, we have the new 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee which boasts a luxurious interior, impressive engine options, and Jeep's renowned 4x4 system. On the right, we have the 2019 Ford Edge with standard front-wheel-drive, cloth upholstery, and a spacious cargo area.

2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Power & Handling

The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers drivers a choice of five different high horsepowered engines. The standard engine on most Grand Cherokee models is a 3.6-liter V6 which makes 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. If you're looking for more horsepower you can opt for the available 5.7-liter V8 which produces 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. Horsepower of the Grand Cherokee is further increased by means of the 6.4-liter V8 that comes standard on the SRT model. This engine pumps out 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. If that isn't enough horsepower either you can opt for the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk model which comes with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8. With 707 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque, you'll be able to race down the track in no time at all. If you'd rather a diesel engine you're in luck. The Grand Cherokee is also available with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 which makes 240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.

2019 Ford Edge Power & Handling

Under the hood of most 2019 Ford Edge models, you'll find a 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine. The EcoBoost engine produces 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel-drive. You can opt for the available all-wheel-drive. The higher level ST model comes with a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 which pumps out 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel-drive comes standard with the ST model.

2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Features & Design

With five different engine options, it is no surprise that the Grand Cherokee comes in seven different trim levels. The base model starts things off with a 7-inch touchscreen. rear parking sensors, and smartphone integration. The second-tier Limited comes fully loaded with a power liftgate, remote start, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, and heated front and rear seats. The off-road-oriented Trailhawk comes with Quadra-Trac II, Quadra-Drive II, air suspension, and skid plates. The Summit adds even more luxurious features which include a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a self-parking system, active noise-canceling technology. The SRT and Trackhawk models come fully loaded with high-performance features like Brembo brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, and performance tires.

2019 Ford Edge Features & Design

Ford offers the Edge in four different trim levels which include SE, SEL, Titanium, and ST. The base model SE comes standard with a 4.2-inch central display, Bluetooth, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, a six-speaker sound system, and blind-spot monitoring. The SEL adds on an exterior keyless entry pad, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power-adjustable front seats to the SE model's features list. Inside the Titanium model, you'll find leather upholstery, remote start, a hands-free liftgate, and driver-seat memory settings. Last up is the Ford Edge ST which is geared towards high-performance. Performance features on the ST include a different engine, a sport-tuned suspension, sport-themed interior trim, and perforated leather and simulated suede upholstery.

Conclusions

It is abundantly clear that the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee outperforms the 2019 Ford Edge in every single way. The high-performance engine in the Ford Edge ST offers barely more horsepower than the Grand Cherokee's standard engine and absolutely pales in comparison to the 707 hp engine in the Trackhawk model. The Grand Cherokee also comes more comprehensively equipped at every single trim level than the Ford Edge.
