Tips for Transitioning Baby from an Infant to Convertible Car Seat

Most parents pass on convertible car seats when their babies are born because they can be clunky, feel large for their babies and not as functional since they can't easily carry their baby around in it. That's why most parents purchase an infant seat for the first few months to a year before transitioning the baby to a convertible car seat. Here are a few tips for transitioning your baby from an infant to a convertible car seat:

Check height and weight requirements.

One your baby starts to grow out of his car seat, it's time to convert. You don't have to wait until your child reaches the maximum height or weight; actually, you shouldn't wait.

Find one that's rear facing.

Even though your child is growing out of the infant seat, he or she is probably still under two years of old and still needs to be in a fear facing position when riding in the car. Make sure that the seat you get can be used while rear-facing.

Take your child's comfort into consideration.

When purchasing your child's convertible seat be thoughtful of what would make your child happy, whether it's cup holders, a particular color or texture. Getting one that has all the comforts to make your child's needs would be best.

Determine if it would fit your car well.

Always consider the vehicle the car seat will be used in if it's not a fit for your car be mindful of that. For instance, if you have an older model car without LATCH you may have to consider safe seats without LATCH.

Make a long-term investment.

The last thing you want to do is to purchase another car seat in a few years, instead make a long-term investment that your child would be able to use for a few years and not have to repurchase one.
