The 2023 Jeep Gladiator is eligible for two engines. Lifting the hood, you’ll find a 3.6-liter V6 engine as standard equipment. The Pentastar engine gives the Gladiator 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque and pairs with a 6-speed manual transmission, while an 8-speed automatic is the two-pedal option. Meanwhile, the Gladiator is also available with an EcoDiesel 3.0L V6, which pumps out 260 horsepower and an impressive 480 lb-ft of torque. The diesel engine comes standard with the 8-speed automatic transmission. Another feature that makes the Gladiator stand out in its class is that all Gladiator models are equipped with a 4x4 system. The lineup features three different options; Command-Trac, Selec-Trac, and Rock-Trac, each providing varying levels of capability. Below, you can take a closer look at the Gladiator 4x4 systems.

Most trucks today come standard with rear-wheel drive, and drivers must pay extra for 4x4. Meanwhile, the Jeep Gladiator comes standard with 4x4. Most Gladiator trim levels come standard with Command-Trac 4x4. Jeep’s Command-Trac system offers drivers spectacular all-weather control with a two-speed transfer case. This system puts drivers in command by using a shift knob to select between two-wheel drive, four-high, and four-low modes. When four-wheel drive is selected, power will be sent to all four wheels and redistributed to the axle with the most traction when necessary. The high and low modes determine how much power is sent. Four-high should be used for driving on main roads in bad weather, while four-low should be used for low-speed control. Meanwhile, Selec-Trac is optional. This full-time 4x4 system is exclusive to the Overland and High Altitude trims. It provides optimal traction in all weather and road conditions by continuously sending torque to the axle with the most traction and automatically shifting to two-wheel drive when four-wheel drive isn’t necessary. Meanwhile, Rock-Trac 4x4, exclusive to the Rubicon trim, is another part-time system, like Command-Trac. Rock-Trac, however, has a transfer case gear ratio of 4:1, allowing for a crawl ratio of 84:1. This means that the Rock-Trac system is best suited for low-speed crawling over rugged terrain.
